A Midnight Visit

A Midnight Visit was Broad Encounters first large-scale work. Set over 2500sqm and involving over 250 creators, the immersive theatre production has captivated over 25,000 people in Perth and Sydney to date, received multiple five-star reviews, and won Best New Event of 2018 for Australia and NZ (Concrete Playground). Inspired by the works, world and legacy of Edgar Allan Poe, the multisensory show upends boundaries and expectations, combining theatre, art, dance, film, soundscape and cabaret.

Where traditional performance locks audiences into the role of spectators, A Midnight Visit liberates them. Guests are made co-creators of their own experience, free to explore over thirty mood-specific rooms, interact with exquisitely detailed sets, solve cryptic puzzles and negotiate encounters with strange characters. Designed to be cerebral, thrilling and ambitious, no two journeys are the same.

The premiere season was co-produced with Groundswell Productions in an abandoned warehouse in Sydney, 2018. The Perth season was presented in collaboration with Fringe World Festival at an old Girls School in 2019.

Danielle Harvey is a curator, creative producer and director. Past roles include Head of Contemporary Performance at Sydney Opera House and the Festival Executive Producer of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. Danielle works across live performance, installation and digital spaces, creating layered programs that connect deeply with audiences. A true polymath, she has been Festival Director of the infamous Festival of Dangerous Ideas, founder of both BingeFest (pop and screen-culture festival) and Antidote (a festival of ideas, art and action), and co-curator of All About Women. Directing credits include A Midnight Visit, Death’s Waiting Room, Molly and The Great Library of Earth.



Kirsten Siddle is a creative producer, curator and arts strategist. Her experience and expertise covers both strategic leadership roles and consultancy for the arts sector and government, as well as producing independent work. Recent productions include A Midnight Visit, A State of Grace: The Music of Tim and Jeff Buckley and Way to Blue: The Music of Nick Drake. Kirsten has produced across multiple genres, including as executive producer for The Royal Ballet’s (UK) Australian tour and Ballet Preljocaj’s Snow White. She has held executive roles at Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Melbourne Recital Centre and was founder and Director of Melbourne’s SummerSalt Outdoor Arts Festival. Her background is as a musician and she completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from The University of Queensland.
